Rita Update: Thursday

11am:
Not much change to the thinking in my previous posts. I'm glad people are evacuating well ahead of time. There will no doubt be people that stay, but hopefully most will learn the lessons from Katrina.

AT 10 AM CDT...1500Z...A HURRICANE WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FROM PORTO'CONNOR TEXAS TO MORGAN CITY LOUISIANA. A TROPICAL STORM WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FROMSOUTH OF PORT O'CONNOR TO PORT MANSFIELD TEXAS. A TROPICAL STORMWARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTHEASTERN COAST OF LOUISIANAEAST OF MORGAN CITY TO THE MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS HAVE DECREASED TO NEAR 165 MPH...270KM/HR... WITH HIGHER GUSTS. RITA IS A CATEGORY FIVE HURRICANE ONTHE SAFFIR-SIMPSON SCALE.

9am:
Rita still at 170mph sustained winds with higher gusts. Almost all of the most recent computer models have around to my forecast thinking and have a direct hit on Galveston, TX and the Houston, TX area. Time for the people along the entire coastline within 100 miles of Galveston to GET OUT. Hearing that one computer model has a max projected storm surge of 38 feet. Unreal.
